Why Has My Potty Trained Child Started Wetting Himself?

Potty preparation is a dark art: Some children plain learn overnight, and some simply can't be bothered. Plus children tin can forget their newfound skills, and start having accidents once more after you idea you'd completed the process.

When one mum wrote in for advice, our community had some not bad suggestions, including getting your child involved with the cleanup, rewards systems, and unproblematic persistence!:

"Hi Mums. I'1000 so stressed, I started potty training my son in May, he volition be iii in August and starting preschool in September. I've been told that he needs to be fully trained earlier he starts. It was slap-up at the beginning (I took everything off the bottom half and by the end of the week he was trained at abode).
Upward until this week he was doing peachy, and even with underpants and reminders nearly his wee wees he has been great with very few accidents. Simply the last 2 days take been a nightmare: He is weeing everywhere, he volition run for his potty for his poos, but just does information technology in his underwear for the wees.

Kalish: My son went through this phase for the first few weeks and has never wet in the night fourth dimension, but then started weeing and pooing in his pants. He just used to laugh at me no matter what I did. He would never do it for anyone else; if he went off with my mam etc. He was just playing upwards with me, looking for attention. Get Them To Clean Up

Clodagh: I'g not sure if it works, only I've heard that if y'all go the child to help you clean up the wee, it helps them to remember to go… might be worth a shot?

Dee:I've washed this: Every time he did a wee on the floor, I'd be like 'Ok, hither you go, make clean up.' If he done it in his pants, I'd become him to remove pants and put them in the wash, and say 'Ok, get the wipes & clean your legs.' Can't say for certain it works, simply he was fully trained in 3 weeks.

Jemma: Yeah, getting them to take off their moisture clothes themselves etc, helps too!

Reward Successes

Julie: Have a treat box, then when he goes on the potty he gets a treat. I did it with my daughter and it worked brilliant. Possibly try the toilet instead of the potty?

Maria: Yous may demand to retrain him and use a reward system like stickers. Aforementioned thing happened with my son: He is one thousand now, with the odd accident. Especially when he's outdoors playing with other children, he doesn't want to go to the toilet in example he misses out on playing.

Alice: Bribery! Sounds awful just worked for me. I knew he needed to go. He'd say he didn't, simply pee two mins after. Solid kickoff telling him no Television set until he goes. Or no ice foam. Or whatever, and he'd go no problem as he was most likely bursting anyway.

Courtney: Keep at it. My son is also 3 in August, trained since March but went through a phase in May where he had heaps of accidents for nearly a calendar week. Dorsum to normal now.
